How to Get More Views on TikTok
Learn how to get more TikTok views by creating engaging content that keeps your audience coming back for more.
TikTok has exploded onto the scene in recent years, quickly becoming one of the world’s most popular social media apps. The entertaining and interactive platform is ideal for both consuming and creating content. TikTok is brimming with new content, and with over 732 million monthly active users, it’s critical that your videos stand out from the crowd if you want more views.
Ready? Let’s get this party started:
So how do you do that?
We’re breaking down how to get more views on TikTok — We’re sharing everything from best practices and tips to obscure algorithm hacks:
What Counts as a TikTok View?
Different social media platforms calculate “views” in different ways, but on TikTok, it’s super simple: your video is counted as a view the moment it begins to play.
If the video autoplays or loops, or if a viewer returns to watch it several times, those are all counted as new views. (However, when you watch your own video, those views are not counted.)
Getting someone to watch until the end? That’s another story. With such a low barrier to entry for what constitutes a “view,” racking up the metrics on TikTok isn’t too difficult.
TikTok pays how much per view?
TikTok’s Creator Fund was launched in August 2020 to reward the platform’s most popular and successful users. Alternatively, as TikTok describes it:
“Through the TikTok Creator Fund Program, creators will be able to earn additional money to help reward the time and effort they put into connecting creatively with an audience that is inspired by their ideas.”
There is no set fee or payment plan (apparently the amount available in the Creator Fund changes daily), but expect to earn between $0.02 and $0.04 per 1,000 views.
However, not just anyone can benefit from TikTok’s generosity. To be eligible for TikTok Creator Fund payments, you must fulfil all of the following requirements:
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Have at least 10,000 followers.
- Have received at least 100,000 video views in the last 30 days.
- Be based in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, or Italy. (I apologise, Canada!)
- The TikTok Community Guidelines and Terms of Service must be followed by your account.
If this describes you, you can apply for the Creator Fund through the app. Navigate to Settings and Privacy, Creator Tools, and TikTok Creator Fund. If you qualify, you’ll be asked to enter your contact information and agree to the Creator Fund Agreement.

How to Get More Views on TikTok Videos
If you want to get more TikTok views this year, here are eight proven strategies to try on your account:
Tip #1: Optimize Content for the #For Your Page
If you want to go viral on TikTok, your goal should be to get featured on the For You page (FYP).
The FYP is the app’s homepage, filled with an endless feed of algorithmically curated content tailored to a user’s interests.
Anyone’s content can be featured on the For You page, which means you don’t have to be a well-known creator or have thousands of followers.
Nevertheless, it helps if you optimize your content to make it easier for the algorithm to recognize and promote.
You can do this by:
- Use relevant keywords or hashtags in your captions
- Be consistent in your niche
- Use trending audio
- Prioritize shorter videos
- Post at optimal times
Tip #2: Add popular and trending hashtags
Hashtags are an extremely effective tool in your TikTok arsenal. It’s how TikTok’s all-powerful algorithm determines what you’re posting about and who might be interested in watching it. If someone viewed a video with the same hashtag as you, there’s a good chance they’ll see your video later as well. Including #FYP and #ForYouPage, of course, can help your video appear in people’s For You feeds.

Tip #3: Engage With Users in Your Niche
TikTok first gained popularity for its popular dance and lip-syncing videos, but it has since evolved into a hub for a variety of content.
Now, there is a place for you — and your audience — on the platform, regardless of your niche.
Consider the kind of content they would engage with and the creators they would follow if you are aware of who your target audience is.
Once you have a list, start interacting with the users on it by sending DMs, liking, and commenting on their videos.
You can gradually create a network of supporters for your brand by regularly interacting with other users in your niche.
The best way to improve your profile with the algorithm and increase the number of views for your content is to do this, as it can result in more likes, comments, and shares for your own TikTok videos.
Tip #4: Use Trending Sounds and Effects
Adopting new trends is one of the best ways to increase your TikTok view count.
Typically, this entails producing videos with TikTok Sounds and viral visual effects.
Some TikTokers even believe that by including a popular sound in their video, even at a low volume, the algorithm will be fooled into showing it to more users.
It’s unclear if this is accurate, but one thing is certain: TikTok’s algorithm shows users content that is similar to what they have already watched.

Tip #5: Add Keywords to Your Captions
Users on TikTok can focus their keyword searches by selecting specific users, videos, sounds, LIVE, and hashtags.
Writing pertinent captions with carefully chosen keywords can therefore have a significant impact on how easily people find your content.
Consider the keyword phrase “social media scheduling tool.” When searching on the Discover page, a relevant TikTok user’s video discussing Later appears first.
Think on the keywords your audience will likely type into the TikTok search bar and sprinkle those into your TikTok captions. You must read how to edit captions after you post your video.
Tip #6: Make Shorter Videos
TikTok typically prefers videos that are shorter and have a seamless loop because watching a video in its entirety is a strong indicator of interest.
As a result, it’s critical to capture your audience’s attention within the first three seconds.
It’s still a good idea to keep your content to a minimum even though TikTok videos can be up to 10 minutes long.
With shorter videos, viewers are more likely to stick around to the end or even watch them again.
Tip #7: Run a TikTok Influencer Marketing Campaign
You can significantly increase the number of views on your videos by working with TikTok creators and running influencer marketing campaigns.
The skincare company Peace Out is one successful example of this.
According to the company’s VP of Brand and Consumer Marketing, Erin Murray, over a third of their previous campaign budget was spent on TikTok influencers.
The business collaborated with dermatologist @dermdoctor, who has a huge following, and the resulting video garnered over 1 million views:
One of the most popular videos for the company has received 9K views and counting since being reposted on Peace Out’s account.
But that’s only one instance. Partnerships with TikTok creators are prioritized by both big and small brands.
Tip #8: Cross-promote on Other Platforms or Go Live
You might have noticed if you frequent social media platforms that many people now post their favorite TikTok videos to other platforms as well.
By leveraging the communities that brands have established on other social media platforms, such as Instagram, cross-promotion can help brands increase the visibility of their TikTok content.
Sharing your TikTok videos to Instagram Stories is a great way to increase the number of people who see your content (with a clear call-to-action encouraging viewers to visit your TikTok channel).
Additionally, if you’re feeling daring, consider going live on TikTok.
Tip #9: Add duet to your video
A Duet on TikTok is when you make a split-screen video with another video that has already been posted. Duets are a great way to leverage someone else’s large following and get your content in front of their fans.

Tip #10: Post multiple videos per day
It may seem counterintuitive to get more views on a single video, but the more videos you post, the more exposure you’re likely to get. If you make a gym video and someone watching workout TikToks sees it, they may visit your page and watch your other videos.
The best part is that you won’t have to worry about your followers’ feeds being flooded. Because TikTok curates everything it does, it won’t feel as overwhelming as it would if you posted multiple Instagram photos or Facebook videos per day.
Tip #11: Post your content on right time
Once you’ve determined who your target audience is, you can begin researching the best times to post for them. TikTok is used in very different ways by a working mother and a college-age fashionista.
Fortunately, TikTok provides analytics to help you determine when your videos receive the most engagement. Remember that TikTok is a global app, so your audience may not even be in the same country, let alone the same time zone, as you.
Tip #12: Prioritize on content quality
While it is true that the majority of TikTok videos are shot on people’s phones, this is no excuse for sacrificing quality. You should still use proper framing, good lighting, and the best sound quality possible. All of these elements will keep users interested. Not to mention that TikTok prioritises higher-quality videos on the For You Page.
After reading all of these tips, hopefully it’s clear that there are numerous ways to improve your videos without simply “tricking” the algorithm. TikTok is without a doubt one of the best platforms for creators. It emphasises enjoyment and rewards users for being inventive. Overall, the better your content performs, the more you can connect with an audience.
Tip #13: Try “how to” type educational content
TikTok’s educational content performs exceptionally well, so get into know-it-all mode and share your knowledge with the world.
How-to videos are especially popular, but even answering a frequently asked question or shedding light on an unexpected aspect of your industry, job, or product can be a refreshing break from the never-ending danceathon.
Vintage Restock’s upcycling videos, for example, receive a lot of attention. Will they be able to combine three pairs of pants into a single pair? We’re all staring at the screen, waiting to find out!
Tip #14: Keep them all around your content
While it is true that users only need to watch a fraction of a second of your video to earn a “view,” it is critical to keep them watching until the end.
This is due to the TikTok algorithm prioritising videos with a high completion rate. It aspires to provide high-quality content as For You Page recommendations.
So, how do you keep your audience’s attention until the end? Play on their curiosity while providing value. Hook them in the first few seconds with a promise of what’s to come if they stick with it (tutorial videos and recipes are great for this! ), or use captions that build suspense for a big reveal.
Tip #15: Post more videos at a time
Things move quickly in the TikTokaverse. Don’t be concerned about oversaturating your followers: just get creative and produce quality content. TikTok actually recommends posting 1-4 times per day.
The more videos you have, the more likely you will appear on someone’s For You page, and the more likely they will come looking for more.
