Cemu is an impressive Wii U emulator that’s able to run all your Nintendo games on a PC with impressive quality levels and with the possibility to reach up to 4K resolution. In constant development, it’s currently able to run a lot of games at 1080p/60fps, and with each new version, it increases its compatibility range. This can be achieved through individual graphic packs that enable you to tamper with resolution, anti-aliasing, or shading.

However, you can turn to specialized software solutions such as Cemu – Wii U Emulator that enables you to play Wii U titles on your computer and adjust graphic settings.

You can turn to this application if you want to run Nintendo Wii U games on your computer, as it provides you with various useful tools. Among the reasons why you’d want to do this are not actually owning the console or being somewhat unsatisfied by the graphics of some games compared to other consoles.

Cemu – Wii U Emulator supports multiple formats, unlike other similar software that can only handle ISO image files. You can load WUD, WUX, ISO, WAD, and RPX files by simply using the “Load” function from the “File” menu.

If you’re familiar with Wii U consoles, you probably know that they come with NFC support, which lets you perform various actions. This program provides you with NFC support, as well, but you need to scan the tags from files on your PC.

The “Options” menu lets you toggle the Fullscreen mode, enable vertical syncing, customize audio settings, define input settings, select the individual graphic packs mentioned earlier, set the console region, and choose the language.

More so, you can configure CPU settings such as choosing between a cycle-based timer or a host-based one and access debugging options. For instance, you can enable logging, disable audio, view PPC threads, or choose an upside-down rendering mode.

In terms of controls, it’s possible to emulate both the standard Wii U remote or the Pro or classic controller. Given that many games don’t need a touchscreen to run, you can use a mouse or external touchpad without any problems and set up the buttons however you like.

FAQ of CEMU Wii U Emulator

Controller input

Currently, the DRC (GamePad), Pro Controller, and Classic Controller is emulated. Wiimotes are emulated as well (including native support). Keyboard input + USB controllers as input devices are supported. GamePad touch input can be controlled via a left mouse click. Gyro functionality is emulated with limitations and can be controlled via the right mouse button.

Which controllers are supported

The GamePad (DRC), Pro Controller & Classic Controller can be emulated, which can be mapped to either your keyboard or any USB controller. It currently supports DirectInput and XInput.

How can I see the GamePad (DRC) screen

The GamePad (DRC) screen is rendered into the main window of Cemu while holding the TAB key on your keyboard or by mapping it to a controller button. You can also toggle between the screens by pressing CTRL + TAB. Additionally, the GamePad view can be displayed in a second window.

Does sound work?

Yes, mostly. But be warned, some sound effects and filters are not yet supported and there can be sudden loud noises in certain games.

ad

Is there support for online functionality?

Online support is almost non-existent and will work only in applications that rely only on very basic network functionality and require no server authentication. This currently only includes the Wii U web browser and possibly some homebrew applications.

Will other platforms besides Windows be supported?

Multi-platform support is planned and so far many development decisions have been in favor of supporting multiple platforms (e.g. choosing OpenGL over DirectX for rendering). But currently, there are thousands of other little things that need to be done before work on ports can be started.

Why is Cemu so slow and will performance ever improve in the future?

At this point, the app can already be considered highly optimized and possible future optimizations will only arrive in small and incremental steps. Keep in mind that emulation always requires a high-performance system compared to the emulated system. For Cemu, the single-core performance of your CPU (and by extension RAM speed) is the most important factor for full-speed emulation.

What are game profiles?

Game profiles are text files that can be used to set up game-specific configurations in the program. You can find game profiles in the ‘game profiles folder of Cemu – Wii U Emulator. There is also an example.ini explaining the available options and how to configure them. Note that some ‘expert options’ are only available via game profiles but not via Cemu’s GUI.

If you’re looking for a quick way to play Wii U games on your computer, you might want to try Cemu – Wii U Emulator, as it packs various relevant tools.
