VLC Media Player for Mac (formerly VideoLAN Client) is a lightweight multimedia player that supports a wide range of audio and video formats such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, MP3, and OGG, as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various video streaming media protocols. On a high-bandwidth network, it can also be used as a server for unicast or multicast streams in IPv4 or IPv6.
VLC for macOS 2.1 is a significant update, with a new audio core, hardware decoding and encoding, porting to handheld devices, readiness for Ultra-HD recording, and extra care taken to accommodate further formats.
Rincewind has a new rendering pipeline for audio, with better efficiency, volume, and device management, to improve VLC for Mac audio support. It supports many new devices inputs, formats, metadata and improves most of the current ones, preparing for the next-gen codecs.
VLC media player requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 or later. It runs on any 64bit Intel-based Mac. Previous devices are supported by older releases. Note that the first generation of Intel-based Macs equipped with Core Solo or Core Duo processors is no longer supported.

VLC Media Player For Mac FAQs
How to Stream Videos and Music Over the Network Using VLC?
VLC includes a fairly easy-to-use streaming feature that can stream music and videos over a local network or the Internet. You can tune into the stream using VLC or other media players.
Connecting to a Stream
To tune in to a stream, click the Media menu in VLC on another computer and select Open Network Stream.
Assuming you used HTTP, enter an address like http://IP.Address:8080.
(If you specified a custom path for your HTTP stream in the Path box, you’ll need to specify the custom path here. For example, if you specified /path as your custom path, you’d enter http://IP.Address:8080/path in the box here.)
After clicking Play, the stream should start playing. To control playback remotely, try setting up VLC’s web interface. If you encounter an error, make sure VLC isn’t being blocked by a firewall on the streaming system.[/vc_toggle]
How can I take screenshots?
