Apple File System (APFS) is a new file system for macOS, iOS, and Apple devices. If you work on a Windows-based computer and want to read and write files on APFS-formatted HDD, SSD or flash drive, you need APFS for Windows by Paragon Software.
The Apple File System or, in short, APFS, is specific to Apple devices, including Mac OS and iOS systems, so it is not possible to browse APFS-formatted drives on Windows unless a dedicated application such as APFS for Windows is used.
When volumes are mounted in the Write mode, you get full access to an APFS for PC volume with the options to edit files, create new files or delete existing files. Please keep in mind that the write access is only available in beta mode. Mounts supported volumes automatically at startup, so you don’t need to bother about it each time you restart the operating system or power your computer on. However, this feature can be disabled at any moment in the program interface. Download APFS for Windows Now!
Providing support for regular hard disks, SSDs, and removable disks, APFS for Windows enables you to explore the content of APFS drives just as you would an NTFS or FAT-formatted drive.
Supports all character sets supported by your operating systems, including those that use non-Roman characters, so you will never face a problem of not getting access to file names on volumes mounted in non-native OS. You can read, copy, and rename this type of file, but not write, modify, create, or delete.
Fail-safe operability across compatible hardware and software systems for both general-purpose and specialized applications.
Protection of data integrity and prevention of accidental data corruption and possible loss.
Steady throughput and balanced goodput with effective flow control, reduced overheads, and congestion avoidance.
Thrifty usage of processor, memory, and disk resources.
Detected volumes are mounted automatically in read-only mode, but you can change this default configuration via the Settings window. Other than action logging, there are not many additional options to tamper with in APFS for Windows.
Once mounted, a volume should be recognized by Windows Explorer as a regular drive, which means you should be able to browse its contents just like you do with any other partition.
